The architectural studios mlzd: and Sollberger Bögli have designed a building for the new football stadium in Lausanne that is radically focused on its function. The design office kong was commissioned for the signage system. They chose a suitably reduced visual language and implementation. The letters of the Formale Grotesque used fold around the building as sector markings corresponding to the unfolded stadium corners. During the construction work, the beta version of Formale Grotesque was used to carry out 1:1 investigations of the concrete structure. Architecture, design and typeface, stand in a radically simple symbiosis — We like it!

Sometimes, we are surprised by how far a font can be transported. In the course of the ‘Blender’ font expansion with the Cyrillic character set, we have often been flirting with the idea of inscribing a Soyuz spacecraft. As fortuity would have it, it happened to be the launch of the SpaceX with the Dragon 2 on Saturday May 30 with the NASA astronauts' trip to orbit: The countdown and the mission’s time were displayed on the NASA screens with the ‘Blender’ font, it therefore was part of the 'new era of human space travel’, as the New York Times called it.
